Hi, I am using map data for the first time. Could anyone please tell me what does the field mapcolor( mapcolor7, mapcolor8, mapcolor9, mapcolor13 ) in ne_10m_admin_0_countries mean ??
They are used to colour the map so that adjacent countries aren’t the same colour. There are versions with 7,8,9 or 13 colours.

You choose your own colours. In the same way as, if you had a field for continent, you could colour each continent a different colour, you pick one colour for the number 1s, one for the 2s and so on. The number in the field has no meaning in an of its own, it simply divides the countries up into groups.
